Osaka (SCCIJ) – The new ambassador of Switzerland to Japan, Mr. Jean-François Paroz, has met members and guests of the Swiss business community and representatives of Japanese companies with close ties to Switzerland in the Kansai area at an official Swiss dinner. The event with Mr. Paroz, who took up his position in September, was part of a diplomatic exploration tour of the Kansai area. The evening meeting at Swissôtel Nankai Osaka was organized by the SCCIJ. The Swiss ambassador to Japan is traditionally the Honorary President of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan.
Target projects and events
Ambassador Paroz used the welcome cocktail to introduce himself and to exchange views with the representatives of various sectors. In his talk, Mr. Paroz underlined the great importance of the Kansai region for the relations between Switzerland and Japan.
He also presented his vision to promote the presence of Switzerland as well as the exchange between Switzerland and the Kansai region with targeted projects and events, especially with a view to the Olympic Games 2020. His ideas were discussed during a five-course dinner including a cheese buffet.
Mr. Paroz was accompanied during his Kansai tour and the SCCIJ dinner by various diplomats of the Swiss Embassy in Japan, among them Mr. Peter Nelson, Deputy Head of Mission. The SCCIJ was represented by SCCIJ President Mr. Michael Mroczek and Mr. Dieter Sommerhalder, SCCIJ Vice President for Kansai, and other members of the SCCIJ executive committee.
“This welcome event is another proof of how closely the Swiss Chamber and Embassy are cooperating for the benefit of Swiss companies in Japan and Swiss-Japanese relations”, Mr. Mroczek said.
