Tokyo (SCCIJ) – The Swiss watchmaker Hublot is known for its “Art of Fusion” philosophy, blending traditional watchmaking materials with modern and unexpected elements. The new MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System Titanium with no dial and no hands could be interpreted as another example of this philosophy.

Radical approach

“With its rounded angles, sleek design, and sapphire crystal of unparalleled complexity, it houses a movement that is no less sophisticated. A fusion of form and substance. The mechanical and aesthetic power are inseparable” – this is how Hublot is marketing the MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System, recently presented at the LVHM Watch Week in Miami.

The MP-10 has no hands. In their place are four constantly rotating displays: the hours and minutes in the upper third of the dial, combined with an invisible magnifying glass; the circular power reserve in the central third, with a very clear green zone and red zone; and the seconds in the lower third which are indicated directly on the tourbillon cage. It is made from monobloc aluminum, suspended and inclined, and a patent application is pending for this special mechanical configuration.

Avant-garde piece

The piece has no dial, either: Hublot has fused the caliber with the dial. The MP-10 features a highly architectural design and a particularly expressive movement built around volume and depth. Yet, this in no way interferes with reading. Instead, it makes it simpler, the watchmaker claims. “The time is read from top to bottom, fluidly and naturally. The power reserve red and green tone disc set coaxially to the hours and minutes”, the advertising text continuous.

This addition to the MP-10 series is designed as an avant-garde piece with a disruptive movement, display, and complications. At the same time, it is a complete, accomplished, and practical watch that may wake the desire of collectors. They may honor the 592 components, the five years of research and development put into it, and an edition limited to just 50 pieces for 250,000 dollars plus value-added tax each.

Hublot was founded in 1980, much younger than many traditional Swiss watchmakers, and tends to more modern, playful, and daring designs. The brand is known for creating technically complex watches with advanced complications such as perpetual calendars, tourbillons, and minute repeaters. It pioneered the use of scratch-resistant ceramics and developed a “Magic Gold” alloy, which is 18K gold but extremely resistant to scratches.
