Swiss “Health Valley”

The Lausanne University Hospital, abbreviated to CHUV due to its French name, is one of the five Swiss university hospitals and belongs to the so-called Switzerland “Health Valley” which is home to nearly 1,000 biotechnology and medical technology companies.

Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne, the CHUV plays a leading European role in the fields of medical care, medical research, and training. CHUV is sharing cutting-edge medical practices through its free magazine, In Vivo, also published in English.

According to Newsweek, it was one of only two Swiss hospitals chosen by the World Health Organization to conduct the all-important Ebola vaccine trials in October 2014.

Top doctors and researchers

The University of Tokyo Hospital established in 1958 is one of the eldest medical institutions in Japan and follows its primary mission to “provide the best medical care to individual patients” in six clinical divisions: Internal, Surgery, Sensory/Motor Function, Pediatrics/ Perinatal/ Gynecology, Neuropsychiatry, and Radiology.

The Newsweek report emphasized that in 2017, the specialized clinical departments of the hospital completed 35 trials, in addition to treating more than 1 million patients. Five years earlier, the hospital opened the trailblazing Department of Disaster Medical Management. It would also educate the top doctors and researchers in Japan, the report said.

U.S. hospitals occupy the two top spots – the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and the Cleveland Clinic, followed by Singapore General Hospital, the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, the Charité University Hospital Berlin, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and the Toronto General Hospital. The Sheba Medical Center Tel HaShomer in Rabat Gan (Israel) completed the Top Ten.
