We are pleased to invite you to our January Luncheon with Mr. Daiju Aoki, Chief Economist for Japan at UBS Wealth Management.

In 2019, global economic growth looks to have fallen to a post-financial crisis low due to slowdowns in the US, Europe, and China. We expect sub-trend global growth to continue into 2020. For Japan, low growth and low inflation situations will continue, but Japan can recover from the shock by the consumption tax hike and from the drag by external headwinds. New trend of capex will be supportive, with tailwinds from secular factor such as labour shortage and technological advances (eg, 5G and AI). Abenomics will enter the last stage before Abe’s end of the term in 2021. Cabinet will have strong incentive to revitalize Japan economy especially after Tokyo Olympic.
