      • May 21, 2018 Swiss mega solar project in Japan completed

        Tokyo (SCCIJ) - Etrion Corporation, a solar independent power producer headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, has announced that the Komatsu solar project totaling 13.2 megawatts (MW) has commenced full commercial operation. This new solar project, built by Hitachi High-Technologies, was completed ahead of schedule and on budget. Etrion also delivered strong project-level results in the first quarter of 2018 from its Japanese assets.[more]

        Tokyo (SCCIJ) – A Swiss succeeding in a classical Japanese art domain and selling his products to Japanese collectors – this is the surprising story of Martin Pauli, a lone manufacturer of urushi fountain pens. Urushi lacquer is produced from the resin of the Japanese lacquer tree. “As a lover and user of Japanese fountain pens, it has been my goal for the longest time ever to make my own fountain pens,” Pauli explained his ambition. His company name “Manu Propria Fountain Pens” also emphasizes that he is a small, independent one-man manufacturer. “Manu propria” is the Latin term for “handmade”.[more]

      • May 15, 2018 Foreign business mood barometer slightly down

        Tokyo (SCCIJ) – The latest Business Confidence Survey of the Foreign Chambers in Japan (FCIJ) shows a small decrease in the outlook for the Japanese economy short term as well as long term compared to the previous survey conducted in October 2017. At the same time, the strong and steady recovery of Japan’s economy was mirrored in profits and sales of chamber member companies. As the biggest challenges in the Japanese market, the respondents mostly cited labor issues, mainly hiring, and retaining good, bi-lingual staff. The FCIJ survey, conducted twice a year, has become an acknowledged bellwether for the business confidence of foreign companies in Japan over the past fifteen years.[more]

        Tokyo (SCCIJ) - Swissbit AG, a leading manufacturer of industrial flash memory solutions based in Bronschhofen (Switzerland), and Hagiwara Solutions Co., Ltd. from Nagoya, have entered a strategic partnership for the purpose of security ventures. Swissbit’s flash memory cards with security features will be distributed by Hagiwara Solutions in Japan. The Japanese partner will also support customers with solutions for the protection of networked industrial controls and devices in the Internet of Things (IoT). [more]

      • May 07, 2018 SwissPrimeBrands founder: “Time to give back”

        Tokyo (SCCIJ) – At the Annual General Meeting 2018, Mr. Luca Orduña was elected as new member of the Executive Committee of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan and hence became the youngest member of the current SCCIJ leadership. He came to Japan on a scholarship program of the Swiss-Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Zurich which is also supported by the SCCIJ and went on to found his own company, the watch distributor SwissPrimeBrands. The SCCIJ talked to him about his motivation to come to Japan, make his living here and support the Swiss Chamber in Japan.[more]

      • April 26, 2018 Swiss luxury brand Chopard commits to “ethical” gold

        Tokyo (SCCIJ) – The Swiss brand Chopard has taken a unique initiative in the watch and jewelry industry with its recent announcement: Starting in July 2018, Chopard will use 100 percent ethical gold in its jewelry and watch creations. Chopard defines “Ethical Gold” as gold acquired from responsible sources, verified as having met international best practice environmental and social standards. The Japanese subsidiary of Chopard expects to benefit from this initiative because the concept of “ethical gold” would have a great appeal for the typical Japanese luxury client, Mr. Thomas Döbeli, General Manager of Chopard Japan, said.       • April 24, 2018 Luncheon: Digital future of financial markets

        Tokyo (SCCIJ) – In a lecture for the about 40 SCCIJ members and guests of the April Luncheon, Dr. Andréa M. Maechler, the first and currently only female member of the Swiss National Bank’s (SNB) governing board and in charge of financial markets, banking operations and information technology, has carefully examined the purposes and benefits of recent innovations in the financial markets. She mainly focused on the blockchain as the digital technology behind the creation of cryptocurrencies, but also analyzed some other new fintech applications. Her lecture was followed by a lively discussion about the future of cross-border payments and cyber money.[more]
